My Mock Business proposal
For my business proposal, I would like to create a unique line of clothes catering to
the country and southern community. The clothing would be named “Rustic Ridge
Outfitters”. There has been a steady increase in the popularity of this form of clothing,
ensuring a successful and bright future. This business will be a merchandising company
because of the supply and demand aspect. The consumers will be buying the product,
allowing us to obtain their money and purchase more products. Some of the products that
would be sold are baseball and trucker hats, short sleeved shirts with our brand name,
thick cut flannels for cold days, jeans meant for cowboy boots or dress shoes and
sunglasses for those sunny days on the farm. The business will be located in Houston,
Texas due to the close proximity to the target consumers. It would be physical to start out
but will hopefully turn into a dual company, both online and physical. We as a company
want to ensure that it is successful before operating online. After having one store, we hope
to expand back to our roots in Alliance, Ohio. To enter this industry, I plan on being frugal
and intelligent with my money. I would rent a small unit for $15,000 a year and will expand
when needed. To obtain the necessary materials to produce the clothing I am estimating it
will cost me $50,000. It would also cost about $5,000 for advertising and media outreach.
These findings are based on assumptions from my experience and view of the economy.
My company will be unique compared to other competitors because it will have
designated days throughout the month in which Veterans and First Responders (Nurses,
Police Officers, Firefighters, etc..) will be given 25% discount on their purchases. This will
be available for them every other Sunday to ensure they are being thanked for their selfless
acts. The profits from this will be donated to local charities including the Veterans Affair
Office. However, they will always be offered a 10% discount on any purchase. This is
unique because many companies only offer a 10% discount and not the increased
discount we will offer. As a company we also will value family and the community over
profit and social standings, compared to more ego-fueled businesses. Instead of
manufacturing the products overseas or in another city, we will be producing them in
house by local associates. This will help us keep tabs on the processes, allowing for a
higher efficiency rate and allowing us to put more products on the shelves. Rustic Ridge will
be centrally located in a small but a high traffic area so it will be easily accessible for the
customers as well as workers. Our workers will also pride themselves on great customer
service and having a good relationship with those looking to buy the products. It is very
important to me that the company has a good rapport with the community, so customers
return for more products. Having great care and respect towards others will set us apart
from every other competitor.
Our main competitors in the area will be Boot Barn, Dicks Sporting Goods, Tractor
Supply Co., and Dunham’s. Boot Barn, though they mostly are known for their boots, they
also sell high quality clothing and accessories. That being said, they will definitely be the
biggest competitor because of their many options in the men and women’s department.
Dicks Sporting Goods will also be a strong adversary because they sell a lot of Carhartt
apparel as well as outdoor hats. Tractor Supply is another outstanding company because
they sell other brands of clothing at a marked rate, making more consumers want to buy
from them instead of the actual brand. They also sell a wide variety of other outdoor
equipment, making their clothing convenient to buy. The final competitor, Dunham’s, will
be great competition because they sell their own brand and it is sold at a fairly low price.
With all of this being said, my brand will stand out because of its unique style and
authenticity, all being made locally.
With this company, there are multiple different fixed costs. The first being rent. Our
unit that is being used is $1,200 a month assuming the rent does not increase. Next is
utilities, including electricity, water and gas, which will average out to be $300 a month. For
our social media outreach, it will cost the company $450 a month to use the editing
software. For the Variable costs It will include the paychecks for the employees working
part time. It will also include purchasing new clothing samples as well as current clothing
depending on the demand and how many items are sold month to month.
In the beginning in a month, I expect to sell 5,000 units. And after a year that number
will go up to 30,000 units. This is because I plan to grow the online site so people around
the country will have access to the goods I am selling. My main Product will be T-shirts. I
plan on charging $36 per shirt, hopefully selling 500. For the baseball hats, I will charge
$27, and for the trucker hats I will charge $31, hopefully selling 375. The bootcut jeans will
cost $71, and regular jeans will be $65, hopefully selling 700. And lastly the sunglasses will
cost $40, hopefully selling 100. At the end of the second month, we would make roughly
$80,000.
Rustic Ridge will also be doing a monthly subscription option for the consumers.
This will be a set price of $19.99 in which the consumer will pay and receive their choice of
a free hat or sunglasses. By doing this, we can begin to grow our online store presence and
keep consumers updated with our new arrivals. This can also help us grow on social media.
By advertising our monthly subscription It will lure people in and grab their attention by
seeing the cheap price next to a quality hat or sunglasses. This will help us with our
success later on. By doing deals and promotions, getting people hooked to our company is
crucial early on, especially when starting a new company.
In my business it will be a price setter, this is because our prices are vastly different
from all of our competitors. Boot barn specifically, has much higher prices, especially
regarding the trucker hats. My company does its best to keep prices affordable for the hard
working citizens all while having great quality. Also, since it is a homemade brand, we are
able to confidently identify what price accurately represents our image and likeness. By
having our products made stateside, we are able to avoid shipping costs, therefore
allowing us to have lower prices that do not have to make up for the difference if we did
have to pay tax.
Rustic Ridge will strive greatly to be the top southern and country clothing line in the
country. By catering towards a specific community, this allows my company to establish a
set group of customers, while still welcoming others. With our special benefits towards the
highly praised individuals in our community, this will allow us to give back to them as well
as show the country what we want to represent. The first month will be a learning
experience with hopes the second month will take us to a higher level. The brand will surely
have competition, like any other market, but as previously stated, our healthy relationship
with the community and reasonable prices will set us apart. Rustic Ridge will be a
successful company with hopes in expanding.
